Terms of Use

Last updated 3 September 2026

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are a legal agreement between you and MatMaps Team, owned and operated by Mrs Sadie-May Guntrip and Mr Glyn Guntrip, of 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 5XT ("MatMaps", "we", "us" or "our"), for your use of the MatMaps mobile app, website and related services (together, the "Services").

By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. Nothing in these Terms removes or limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK consumer law.

Questions can be sent to hello@matmaps.co.uk.

1 Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 to use MatMaps. A confirmed date of birth showing that a user is under 13 results in a hard block. Users aged 13 to 17 use a restricted Junior account. A person accepting these Terms for a club confirms that they have authority to do so.

A user aged 13 to 17 should use MatMaps with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. A parent or guardian must authorise and pay for any Athlete Junior subscription. A coach or club staff member is not the owner of a Junior's account and does not receive the Junior's password, recovery, deletion, notebook or training-session access.

You must provide accurate information, protect your login details and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless caused by our failure to use reasonable care.

One person must not create accounts to evade a block, moderation action, usage limit, staff seat limit or subscription restriction.

2 Age assurance and adult access

Date of birth is collected privately to set an initial age band, but entering an adult date of birth does not verify a user as an adult and does not unlock adult social features. A payment or subscription is also not proof of age.

Where available, MatMaps uses age-range information supplied by the device or app-store platform. Missing, declined, unavailable, conflicting or failed signals are treated conservatively. The stricter outcome is used, so a user remains in the Junior-safe experience unless adult status is confirmed.

To obtain adult access, a user may complete an age-assurance check supplied by Didit using either:

  • Facial age estimation: a short live face capture is analysed to estimate whether the user is clearly above the adult threshold. MatMaps currently requires a result of at least 25, including a successful liveness result, for automatic adult confirmation. A result in the adult buffer zone requires step-up to photo ID.
  • Photo-ID matching: Didit checks an eligible passport or driving licence, document validity and expiry, the date of birth, a live selfie, liveness and whether the selfie matches the document photograph.

A pending, failed, underage, inconclusive or expired check does not unlock adult access. The alternative method may be offered where appropriate, and attempts may be limited to protect the service. A successful adult result is normally valid for 365 days, after which another check may be required. We may require an earlier re-check if fraud, error or account-security concerns arise.

Age-assurance decisions can be challenged by emailing hello@matmaps.co.uk. We may ask for information needed to locate the verification and carry out an appropriate review. More detail about the information used is in the Privacy Policy.

3 Junior accounts

The Junior-safe experience applies to users aged 13 to 17 and to users who declare that they are 18 or over but have not completed adult age assurance. Unknown or uncertain age status is treated as Junior.

A Free Junior account can use the free training limits shown in the app, Club Discovery, core club details, events, its own profile and sports preferences. It cannot affiliate to a club, receive club notices or message club owners or staff.

A paid Athlete Junior account can use the training timer, scorekeeper, notebook and its own training sessions and progress. It can have one verified club affiliation, receive notices from that exact club and exchange restricted messages only with the owner or active staff of that club. If the affiliation or staff role ends, new messages are blocked and the existing thread becomes read-only.

All Junior accounts are blocked from Arena posts, reels and comments; the Travelling Fighter Hub; friends and friend requests; general user search or messaging; public @usernames; mentions and tags; public athlete media; club galleries and videos; club reviews; and saved social content or social notifications. These restrictions apply even if a Junior follows a route, deep link, shared link or notification.

Junior access is intended for training, club discovery and age-appropriate club communication. It must not be used to evade an adult restriction or to create a public social profile.

4 Plans and account roles

Features depend on age status, account role and active entitlement. Free standard accounts can discover clubs and events and use the free features shown in the app, but do not receive a unique @username and cannot use friends, tagging or private messaging. Usage limits may apply to the training timer and notebook.

Adult Athlete accounts may use eligible social, training and profile features only while their adult age assurance and applicable entitlement remain valid. Club owners manage a club under an active club subscription. Club staff receive access through the owner's invitation and do not buy a separate staff subscription. Junior permissions remain subject to section 3 regardless of the role shown on the account.

Feature availability may also depend on device permissions, platform support and whether app-store billing has been connected.

5 Unique @usernames

Eligible users choose a unique @username. A personal @username can normally be changed only once every six months. You are shown this restriction before confirming your first username.

A club @username is generated from the confirmed club name. It can normally be changed only once a year or where the club's official name has genuinely changed. We may adjust, reserve or remove a username that impersonates another person or club, infringes rights, misleads users, contains prohibited content or creates a security risk.

A username does not create ownership of a trade mark or other legal right.

6 Friends, tagging and private messages

Eligible, verified-adult users can search by @username, send and respond to friend requests and tag eligible users. If two users are friends, messages can enter the main chat list. A message from a non-friend enters Message Requests until the recipient accepts it. Junior coach/staff communication is a separate restricted feature described in section 3 and does not provide a general inbox or user search.

A declined request does not start a conversation. Do not repeatedly contact, harass or use new accounts to reach someone who has declined or blocked you. Users can archive or delete their own chat view and can block another user, subject to the behaviour described in the app.

Users communicate as themselves. Club pages do not have a direct-message inbox and no user is entitled to message a club directly through MatMaps. Club contact remains through the email address, telephone number or website shown on the club page. A message button on a club notice starts a personal one-to-one chat with the owner or staff member who posted it.

7 Clubs, staff, affiliations and member notes

A club cannot be managed on the Free plan. Only the club owner can create, copy or cancel staff invitations and add or remove staff. Staff can join only through a valid one-time invitation link from the owner. An invitation can fail if it has expired, has already been used, was cancelled or the club has no remaining staff seat.

Depending on permissions, staff may edit club details, post as the club, add events and media, verify affiliated members, send club notices and add member notes. There can never be more than eight people in total running a club page: one owner and up to seven staff members.

A user's selection of an affiliated club can remain unverified until an owner or authorised staff member confirms it. Club owners and staff must use verification and coach-note tools responsibly, keep information accurate and confidential, and avoid recording another person's sensitive information without a proper reason and permission. Sending a note to a member shares that note with the member's account.

The club owner is responsible for the acts of staff they invite and for removing access promptly when it is no longer appropriate.

8 Arena, Travelling Fighter Hub and user content

Arena and the Travelling Fighter Hub are adult social features available only to eligible users whose adult age assurance and account entitlement are valid. Arena posts normally go live immediately and are not placed into a routine pre-approval queue. Eligible users can post, comment, like, share, save and, where available, upload photos or videos. The Travelling Fighter Hub is a text-only forum with user-selected location tags.

You remain responsible for what you post. Only upload content that you have the right to use. Do not publish private information about another person without permission. Public content and interaction counts may be seen and shared by other users.

9 Reports and moderation

Users can report posts and comments. Obvious sexual content, spam or repeated identical posts from the same account in a short period may be automatically hidden and flagged for administrator review. An administrator may remove, keep, restore or dismiss reported or flagged content.

Automated checks support safety and moderation; they are not guaranteed to detect every violation. We may consider the content, context, account history, reports, user safety and applicable law. Contact support if you believe content was restricted incorrectly.

10 Club reviews

New club reviews require administrator approval before appearing publicly. Reviews must reflect a genuine experience and must not be misleading, abusive, unlawful, incentivised without disclosure or copied from another source.

A club owner or staff member must not review a club they run and cannot remove or reject reviews of that club. Only an authorised administrator can approve, reject or remove a review. A club may report a review for assessment but cannot require removal merely because it is negative.

11 Clubs, events, maps and location

Club listings, timetables, locations, event dates, prices and contact details may be supplied by users, clubs or third-party sources and can change. MatMaps does not guarantee that every listing is complete or current. Confirm important details with the club or organiser before travelling or paying.

Discovery and proximity results depend on device permission, stored coordinates and map data and may be inaccurate. Map display and directions are informational only. An external "Open in Google Maps" web link, where present, is governed by the external provider's terms.

Expired events may be marked ended and made unselectable based on their recorded end time. Organisers remain responsible for cancellations, safety, tickets and event delivery.

12 Training timer, scorekeeper, notebook and progress

Training tools are provided for general organisation and record keeping. Bells, beeps, vibration, Bluetooth, display behaviour and timing can be affected by device settings, hardware, connectivity or operating-system restrictions. Always supervise training safely and use an appropriate independent timing method where accuracy is safety-critical.

MatMaps does not provide medical, coaching or emergency advice. Stop training and seek appropriate professional help if you are injured or unwell. Training logs, analytics, scores and coach notes may be incomplete or inaccurate and should not be treated as an official competition record.

13 Subscriptions, renewal and cancellation

Paid subscriptions are available only when the applicable app-store billing connection is live. Before purchase, the app-store checkout will show the final price, billing period, renewal terms, any trial and available cancellation information. The store price and checkout terms control if they differ from an informational website display.

Plan Price Included club access
Free £0 No club management; advertising and free-use limits may apply
Athlete Junior Price and billing period shown in the app-store checkout Junior training tools, one verified club affiliation, club notices and restricted coach/staff messaging; no adult social features
Athlete £2.99 per month Personal athlete features; no club staff seats
Club Owner £11.99 per month or £119 per year 1 owner + 1 staff member (maximum 2 people)
Club Team — 4 people £19.99 per month or £199 per year 1 owner + 3 staff members (maximum 4 people)
Club Team — 8 people £29.99 per month or £299 per year 1 owner + 7 staff members (maximum 8 people)

Athlete Junior is a separate Junior entitlement and is not the same as the adult Athlete plan. Monthly or annual Athlete Junior options may be offered where configured. The parent or legal guardian authorising the purchase is responsible for the app-store payment. Restoring purchases restores only the entitlement bought through the relevant store account and does not prove the user's age or unlock adult social access.

Staff do not pay separately. If the club reaches its plan limit, the owner must remove a staff member or upgrade before another invitation can be accepted. Only the owner can manage the club subscription and staff seats.

Where a subscription automatically renews, it continues for the selected billing period until cancelled. You can manage or cancel through the Apple App Store or Google Play account used to purchase. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the paid period unless the store or applicable law provides otherwise. Refunds and statutory cancellation rights are handled in accordance with applicable law and the store's process. Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory consumer rights.

We may change future prices or plan features. We will provide the notice and obtain any consent required by law or the app store before a change applies to an existing subscription.

14 Promotional boosts and advertising

When connected, a club may buy a one-off featured placement for the duration shown in the app, such as 7, 14 or 30 days. Eligible boosted clubs rotate in the featured carousel. A boost increases eligibility for display but does not guarantee a fixed number of impressions, clicks, enquiries or customers.

Eligible free users may see advertising, including AdMob ads. Paid Athlete access is intended to remove AdMob ads while the entitlement remains active. Age-assurance data must not be used to target advertising. Any advertising shown to a Junior in production must be configured as age-appropriate contextual or non-personalised advertising. Third-party advertisements and linked services are the advertiser's responsibility.

15 Intellectual property and content licence

The MatMaps name, logo, app, website, code, design and original materials are owned by or licensed to MatMaps and are protected by intellectual-property law. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the Services for their intended purpose.

You retain ownership of content you create. You give MatMaps a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for technical formatting, display and distribute that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, promote and improve the Services. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies lawfully retained in backups, reports or content shared with others.

You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed for your content, including images, video, music, names and personal information.

16 Prohibited conduct

You must not:

  • post illegal, sexually exploitative, threatening, hateful, harassing, fraudulent, defamatory or privacy-invasive content;
  • spam, repeatedly post identical material, manipulate likes/reviews, impersonate a person or club, or create deceptive accounts;
  • contact someone who has declined or blocked you, or use message requests to harass;
  • upload malware, interfere with security, scrape data, reverse engineer the Services except where law permits, or overload the platform;
  • claim or manage a club without authority, misuse staff invitations, share one-time invite links publicly or exceed staff limits;
  • publish another person's confidential, health or contact information without an appropriate basis and permission;
  • infringe intellectual-property or other legal rights; or
  • use MatMaps to arrange unsafe, unlawful or unauthorised activity; or
  • give false age information, submit another person's face or identity document, interfere with an age-assurance check, or use another account to evade a Junior or adult-access restriction.

17 Availability, updates and external services

We aim to keep MatMaps available but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. Maintenance, faults, device compatibility, internet access and third-party services may affect features. We may update the app, fix defects or change a feature where reasonably necessary for security, law, performance or product development.

Links, map tiles, age-assurance providers, app stores, payment providers and other third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy notices. We are not responsible for their independent content or operation, but this does not affect responsibility we cannot lawfully exclude.

18 Suspension, termination and deletion

You may stop using MatMaps and request account deletion through the app or by contacting support. Eligible club owners may be able to delete club data separately. Deletion and retention, including deletion requests relating to Didit verification sessions, are explained in the Privacy Policy.

We may restrict content, suspend features or close an account where reasonably necessary because of a serious or repeated breach, fraud, safety risk, legal requirement, non-payment or misuse. Where appropriate, we will explain the action and provide a way to contact support. Immediate action may be necessary to protect users or comply with law.

Ending an account does not cancel an app-store subscription automatically. You must also manage the subscription through the store used to purchase it.

19 Responsibility, disclaimers and liability

MatMaps is a discovery, community and training-record tool. Clubs, organisers, coaches and users are independent from MatMaps. We do not endorse or guarantee a club, event, coach, training partner, review or user merely because it appears in the Services.

You are responsible for assessing whether a club, event, training activity or contact is appropriate and safe. Combat sports involve an inherent risk of injury. Use qualified supervision, suitable equipment and medical advice where appropriate.

We do not exclude or limit liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory consumer rights. Subject to that, we are responsible for loss that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or failure to use reasonable care, but not for loss caused by inaccurate user content, your breach, or events outside our reasonable control.

If you use MatMaps wholly or mainly for business purposes, we are not responsible for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or anticipated savings to the extent permitted by law.

20 Changes, governing law and contact

We may update these Terms. We will change the "Last updated" date and provide additional notice where a material change requires it. Continuing to use the Services after a notified change takes effect means the updated Terms apply, but this does not remove rights that require your express agreement.

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer elsewhere in the UK, you keep any mandatory rights and may bring proceedings in the courts available to you under applicable consumer law.

If part of these Terms is unenforceable, the remaining parts continue. A delay in enforcing a right does not waive it. These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the agreement about your use of MatMaps, together with any specific terms shown at purchase.
